So there is a place called Turkmenistan (who knew).
40 years ago the Russians were drilling in the desert and thought they found oil. They didn’t. They found natural methane gas. Like a whole bunch. They decided to set it on fire to get rid of it (because that makes perfect sense).
It has been burning for 40 years.
